Chapter 11… (Not bankruptcy, but my memoir)

Hi there,

I’m in Chapter 11…

Of my memoir (bazinga).

No, this isn't a bankruptcy update.

I’m excited (and a bit nervous) to share that I’m 7 months into writing my first book.

Today, I’d like to share some details around the project, what you might expect and get you excited about it as well!

Let’s take a look…

What’s this book about…?

Without pulling back the entire curtain, the memoir begins as I join a creative agency, my first real test navigating agency dynamics as an SEO and how the experience reshaped my career ambitions.

At its core, it’s an honest, personal look at the choices I made over the course of a year, why I made them, and what I learned along the way.

Think of it less as an SEO handbook and more as a memoir, written by an SEO, yes, but anchored in the people, perspectives, and pivots that shaped my journey.

Why this book, why now?

Evolution is necessary

Staying still isn’t an option in today’s dynamic environment.

I shared that macro trends have disrupted my sales pipeline and, although I have the family business, I still have the need to build something of my own.

So I wanted to flex my creativity, as mentioned, but also pick up new skills, learn about new verticals, and tackle fresh challenges beyond the day-to-day SEO work.

Already, I’ve learned nuances around memoir-writing, honed in on narrative skills, while sharpening my writing - abilities that matter now more than ever in an AI-driven world.

Softer skills need prioritization

Navigating SEO within a larger web ecosystem can be overwhelming and there’s no shortage of advice on the hard skills you need, but far less on the softer skills (communication, agency relationships, confidence) and experiences that make or break your efforts…something that I feel is sorely lacking in the digital space.

Personally, with so many great experts sharing timely tactics, it’s easy to feel like there’s less to add (as I mentioned here). This book changes that by zeroing in on my own experience, missteps, and lessons learned.

Channeling creativity

At present, I have a mental marble slab of experiences, thoughts, and emotions centered around the subject.

Like any other artist, the challenge and reward lies in shaping that raw marble into a coherent piece that resonates with folks.

The process requires creativity; selecting which anecdotes to carve out, weaving them into a compelling narrative, and ensuring each chapter speaks to the heart and mind.

Next steps & timeline

If all stays the course, I hope to finalize the first draft of a manuscript by the end of 2025.

In Q1 2026, I’ll gather feedback (alongside ID’ing beta readers) while making edits. In this time frame, I’d also like to aim to finalize the cover design.

My target is to officially launch and publish by mid-2026.

In the meantime, stay tuned for pre-order details.

“How could I support, Edwin?”

Honestly, if you’ve read this far, thank you. I appreciate it.

It’s not easy putting yourself out there, trying to describe moments. Covering an aspect of my life in this detail means having to relive the past and distill it for an audience, which can be…uncomfortable.

Yet, it’s also deeply cathartic and therapeutic to see how far I’ve come, what I’ve learned, and remembering tough times are temporary.

I’ll keep sharing updates as the book takes shape. If you’d like to join the journey, click here to stay in the loop.

Thank you again for your support. Your encouragement means everything.

Best,

Edwin Romero

Hi there, I recently had some fascinating conversations with three separate companies: An auto parts reseller An online professional education hub A higher-ed institution selling online courses What do they all have in common? A portfolio of websites, on different tech stacks, at different SEO maturity levels, all looking for a unified strategy. What stuck out? They still believe in the value of SEO. Despite everything swirling around us (the AI noise, the uncertainty, the budget freezes)...

Hi there, It’s no surprise the last year has been formative for SEO and it doesn’t appear it will let up, anytime soon. With the introduction of AI, both in SERPs (AIO) as well as in 3rd party tools (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, etc.) brands and marketers are attempting to reconcile where SEO is heading, what’s going to change, and how we prepare. Initially I was intimidated by the change; "I can't keep up" was my initial thought but having dug in and giving myself time to reflect, I have...

Illustration of a professional climbing an arrow-shaped ladder, receiving help from a manager, symbolizing managing up for career growth

Hi there, I used to dream about leading my own SEO team—a goal I set early in my career. That dream became a reality during my last full-time role, where I was promoted and entrusted with a team of four. At first, I thought management was mostly about assigning work and helping my team grow. But I quickly realized that managing up, building strong relationships with my superiors, was just as critical. Not only for my career, but for my team’s success too. According to Gallup, employees who...
